Mimkent Social Space Project
A social space was built for Mimkent, the container office space created by Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Architects for architects and engineers who lost their offices in the center of Kahramanmaraş during the February 6 earthquakes, in partnership with the Association of Architecture for All (Herkes İçin Mimarlık), Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Architects and Istinye University. The aim was to provide a socializing space for architects and engineers who will work in the containers, as well as hosting events where architects and engineers can come together with the city's citizens to share and discuss the future of the city.
After design studies and prototype trials were carried out at Istinye University for 2 weeks with the team, which was selected among the architecture and interior architecture students from different schools who applied to the open call, the participants traveled to Kahramanmaraş with the participants, and the project was implemented in 11 days. The booklet of the project was prepared in the week after the implementation was completed and we left Kahramanmaraş. During the implementation, the participants stayed in empty containers in Mimkent. Dulkadiroğlu Municipality provided the wood materials for the project, while other costs were covered by Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Architects and Architecture for All (Herkes İçin Mimarlık) Association.
The area shown in pink on the site plan was designed as a "sub-unit". This space has functions such as seating, dining and bar workspace, as well as offering flexible spaces to the users. The workspace section in the module below this unit was not constructed because the material supply ran out during the implementation.
The 2nd space shown in yellow was designed as a "stage unit". This unit was intended to establish a relationship with both space 1 and space 3. The relationship with the 1st space was established with the deck and gazebo and the relationship with the 3rd space was established through the stage. The fabric pieces of the stage unit and the lower unit that would provide shade in the summer were not installed because the season was coming to an end, and the fabrics were stored in the area to be used the following year.
In the last space shown in blue, the "amphitheater" unit was designed. The stage in the 2nd space shown in yellow was positioned so that it could be watched from various directions. It was also designed to be suitable for spending free time.
