
Interior architect, designer and illustrator İpek Kay will be presenting "Bridging Real and Imaginary Worlds Through Spatial Narrations," where she will discuss how spatial storytelling connects reality and imagination in design. The seminar takes place as a part of Türkan Oya Ekmekçi’s lecture Exploring Space Through Visual Narratives at İstinye University Department of Architecture; and it is open to everyone interested.

Biography
İpek Kay is an interior architect, designer, and illustrator. After graduating from ITU's Department of Interior Architecture in 2010, she completed her master’s thesis in the ITU Architectural Design Program, exploring how spatial experiences can support learning. In 2021, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis, “Designing Digitally-Enhanced Environments for Children’s Play with Everyday Objects”, at ITU’s Architectural Design Computing Program. As part of her research, she developed MonnoM, a digital medium supporting children's spatial narratives, which was among the initiatives funded by the TÜBİTAK 1512 Entrepreneurship Support Program. She continues to work on MonnoM, designing interactive play environments that integrate digital tools to enhance children's sensory experiences and collaborating with museums on workshops.
In addition to her research, she illustrates children’s books, published by Paraşüt Kitap, Nesin Yayınevi, Kırmızı Kedi, ABM Yayınevi. She co-led the Az Şifalı Bitkiler project, supported by the CultureCIVIC Artistic Production Fund, in collaboration with Hatiye Garip.
Since the February 6 earthquakes, she has been actively engaged with Şehir Dedektifi, focusing on children's spatial rights and participatory playground design, and now continues as a design and implementation coordinator.
